There
are several ways you can make a difference. If you feel you
can help the foundation in some other manner we would love for you
to contact us with your
ideas. We are always looking for new ways to help the foundation
grow.
- Become a volunteer Blood and/or Platelet Pheresis donor by
contacting your local Blood Center to donate. Almost all cancer
patients who receive chemotherapy need blood transfusions. Jessica
received over 400 blood transfusions in just four months to keep
her alive throughout her transplant; blood donors gave her a
fighting chance. Your regular blood donation can help meet the
needs of children and adults going through cancer treatments.
- Become a potential Bone Marrow or Stem Cell donor; you
could be the one who directly saves the life of a child who needs
a marrow or stem cell transplant. Contact the National Marrow
Donor Program (http://www.marrow.org)
at 1-800-MARROW2 (1-800-627-7692) or the HLA Registry Foundation
(http://www.HLARegistry.org)
at 1-888-HLA-DONOR for more information or to
register.
- Know
someone who is pregnant? Share with them the knowledge that the
umbilical cord blood of newborn babies after birth contains large
numbers of blood stem cells that could potentially save a life,
including their own or someone in their family. Visit the National
Marrow Donor Program website(shown above) for a list of Cord Blood
Banks near you.
- Share your skills and talents with the Jessica Ann Hicks
Foundation or a similar organization in your
area.
- Donate to the Jessica Ann Hicks Foundation, Inc so that
together we can continue to make a difference in the future of
childhood cancer and in the lives of those fighting this battle.
Checks may be made payable to:
